On November 14th from 11:45-1:00, DABE will host a media panel at the University of Colorado Denver. Aldo Svaldi from the Denver Post, Ben Markus from Colorado Public Radio, and Dana Coffield from the Colorado Sun will discuss their view of the Colorado economy, economic risks, the changing media landscape, and suggestions for talking with the media.
Dana is a longtime Colorado reporter and editor who led the business news departments at The Rocky Mountain News and The Denver Post before helping to launch The Colorado Sun, a new statewide digital news publication. She takes special interest in the local real estate market because it seems to provide early signals about the health of the economy in general.
Ben is the business reporter for Colorado Public Radio. Ben started as a general assignment reporter at CPR eight years ago, and he has covered some of the biggest stories in state history: the Aurora theater shooting, wildfires, floods, and marijuana legalization. But as the newsroom at CPR added reporters he was eventually elevated to the business beat full time. Ben admits it's getting a little boring talking about how great the economy is in Denver, but he also knows it's better than the alternative.
Aldo has been a business reporter at The Denver Post since late 2000. He covers residential real estate, the Colorado economy and economic development. Prior to joining The Post, he covered utility diversification for Financial Times Energy in Boulder and finance and banking at the Denver Business Journal. He worked as an intern with Arab News during the first Gulf War and graduated with a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri. He also has a bachelor’s degree in communications and European Studies from Phillips University in Oklahoma and is a native of Denver.
